Transportation Funding & Financing

Proposed Finance Mechanisms

As funding for the nation's transportation infrastructure needs becomes increasing thinly stretched, public officials, financiers, and transportation professionals are exploring a range of new financial tools to help fill funding gaps. This ongoing dialogue is reflected in the work to prepare a new multi-year transportation authorization act by September 2009 and the findings of two recent commissions established by Congress: The National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission and The National Surface Transportation Infrastructure Financing Commission. This section of the Clearinghouse website provides information on some of the new financial tools arising through this dialogue.
